HMG 75IU is a research-grade gonadotropin preparation studied for follicle development, spermatogenesis and gonadotropin-driven steroidogenesis. This 3 ml vial containing 75 IU presentation is intended for laboratory investigation of combined FSH and LH receptor signalling. Human menopausal gonadotropin contains both follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinising hormone activity extracted from postmenopausal urine. FSH drives follicular recruitment and granulosa-cell aromatase activity, while LH supports theca-cell androgen production and, in males, Leydig-cell testosterone synthesis. The two activities are studied together because spermatogenesis and follicular maturation require coordinated FSH and LH signalling rather than either hormone alone.
The American Society for Reproductive Medicine reviewed gonadotropin preparations and established that urinary menotropins can induce follicular development and spermatogenesis when endogenous gonadotropin output is suppressed (Fertility and Sterility, 2008). Later comparative studies examined purified and recombinant preparations, reporting similar clinical outcomes with different impurity profiles. Researchers use HMG to model controlled ovarian stimulation, spermatogenesis recovery after suppression, and the relative contribution of FSH versus LH to gonadal function. It is also a comparator in studies of recombinant FSH, HCG and kisspeptin.
The 75 IU vial is a standard unit for sequential stimulation protocols and allows precise titration without committing to a larger batch. Reconstitute with the supplied solvent, keep the solution cold, and use it within the stability window because urinary gonadotropins can lose potency after prolonged storage in solution. Store the lyophilised powder at -20C, protect it from light, and reconstitute with bacteriostatic water or an appropriate laboratory buffer according to institutional protocols. Prepare aliquots before freezing and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, which degrade peptide structure and reduce reproducibility.
Open questions include the optimal FSH-to-LH ratio for different indications, the impact of urinary versus recombinant sourcing on immunogenicity, and whether adding LH activity improves outcomes in poor responders. For research use only. This material is not a drug, food or cosmetic and must not be administered to humans or animals outside an approved research protocol.
