Anti Estrogens
Two jobs, two toolkits: aromatase inhibitors stop estrogen at the source, SERMs block it at the receptor. Pick the right one for the problem.

Anti-estrogens: controlling estrogen on and off cycle
The anti-estrogen category covers two different jobs. Aromatase inhibitors - anastrozole and exemestane - block the enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogen. SERMs such as tamoxifen and clomiphene work on a different mechanism, blocking estrogen at the receptor while leaving the aromatase pathway alone. Which one someone needs depends on whether they are trying to control estrogen during a cycle or restart their own testosterone production afterwards.
Why control estrogen at all
Unchecked estrogen shows up as water retention, a soft look, nipple sensitivity, and the kind of lab value you would rather not have. AIs are effective and cheap for the on-cycle job but they are not free - pushing estradiol too low brings its own problems: joint pain, a flat mood, and a libido that disappears. Bloodwork is the only way to dose them sensibly.
Checks
- Label names the actual compound - anastrozole or exemestane, not 'AI' or 'estrogen blocker'.
- Tablets: sealed bottle, printed batch and expiry, intact.
- These are prescription drugs; counterfeits are rarer than in the steroid market but still present.
- Store cool and dry, away from pets.
Quick answers
AI or SERM - which do I need?
Prevention (estrogen rising on aromatizing compounds) is AI work: Arimidex vs Aromasin. Receptor-level problems (gyno forming) pull in SERMs like nolvadex. Running both blindly is how people crash their estrogen and feel worse than the original problem.
How do I know my estrogen is too high?
Puffy nipples, water swing, mood volatility, libido changes - but bloodwork is the only reliable answer. Get estradiol sensitive measured mid-cycle; guessing turns a five-dollar pill decision into a six-week sides mess. See the panel guide.
Can I prevent gyno without an AI?
Often, yes - dose choice, testosterone-only cycles, and the prevention playbook. AIs are tools for when the math demands them, not supplements to take because a cycle started.
