DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) is a naturally occurring neuropeptide first isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood and studied for its effects on sleep architecture, stress response and neuroendocrine regulation. Early work by Schoenenberger and Monnier (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1977) described the peptide's delta-wave sleep-inducing activity, and subsequent studies examined its interaction with the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, pain perception and circadian signalling.
The precise receptor and signalling mechanism remain unresolved, which is why DSIP is often described as a neuromodulator rather than a classical receptor agonist. Researchers use it to model sleep onset and maintenance, stress resilience, neuroendocrine output and recovery, and to compare its effects with other sleep-related peptides such as semax. The peptide is supplied as 15mg of research-grade material in a 3ml vial. Store lyophilized powder at -20C, protect it from light, and reconstitute with bacteriostatic water according to institutional protocols.
Common research questions concern its bioavailability, its effect on slow-wave versus REM sleep, and whether the observed effects are consistent across species. This product is intended strictly for laboratory research by qualified professionals. It is not approved for human consumption, clinical treatment or therapeutic use. Sleep studies typically use EEG and EMG recording to quantify slow-wave sleep, REM latency and wake episodes, while stress studies measure corticosterone, ACTH and behavioural readouts.
DSIP has also been examined in pain and withdrawal models, where the proposed effects are neuromodulatory rather than sedative. Because the peptide is rapidly degraded, investigators often use repeated administration or stabilised analogues, and they should report the route and timing relative to the light cycle.
