MOTS-C 40mg is a research-grade mitochondrial-derived peptide studied for AMPK signalling, metabolic flexibility and age-related insulin resistance. This 3 ml vial containing 40 mg presentation is intended for laboratory investigation of long-duration mitochondrial metabolic studies. MOTS-C is a mitochondrial-encoded 16-mer that activates AMPK, inhibits MTHFD2 and translocates to the nucleus to regulate stress-response genes. Its effects converge on increased glucose uptake, fatty-acid oxidation and mitochondrial biogenesis, making it a tool for studying how mitochondria communicate metabolic state to the rest of the cell.
Lee and colleagues (Cell Metabolism, 2015) established the metabolic phenotype in diet-induced obese mice, including reduced adiposity and improved insulin sensitivity. Later studies reported that MOTS-C declines with age and that exogenous peptide can restore aspects of metabolic flexibility in older animals. The larger presentation supports long-duration ageing studies, multiple treatment arms and repeat-sampling designs. Researchers use it to examine exercise adaptation, sarcopenia, hepatic steatosis and the interaction between mitochondrial peptides and NAD+ metabolism.
A 40 mg vial reduces the number of reconstitutions needed for multi-week protocols and allows matched aliquots across treatment groups. Because MOTS-C is sensitive to repeated freeze-thaw, prepare single-use aliquots and document the reconstitution date. Store at -20C in the dark, and reconstitute only the amount needed for each experiment. Gently swirl rather than shake, keep the solution cold, and discard any aliquot that shows cloudiness or precipitation. Open questions include the dose-response relationship in aged versus young animals, the role of the folate cycle in mediating its effects, and whether the peptide crosses the blood-brain barrier sufficiently to affect central metabolic control.
This product is intended strictly for in-vitro and in-vivo laboratory research by qualified professionals. It is not approved for human consumption, clinical treatment or therapeutic use.
