AOD-9604 is a synthetic modified fragment of human growth hormone corresponding to amino acids 176-191, the region associated with the hormone's lipolytic activity. It is studied as a fat-metabolism research peptide that stimulates lipolysis and inhibits lipogenesis without the growth-promoting or insulin-counterregulatory effects of full-length growth hormone. Preclinical work by Heffernan and colleagues (Endocrinology, 2001; International Journal of Obesity, 2001) reported increased fat oxidation and reduced body-fat accrual in obese mice, with no meaningful rise in IGF-1 or blood glucose.
Those findings made AOD-9604 a reference compound for studying the dissociation of lipolysis from GH receptor signalling. Researchers use it to model adipocyte lipolysis, obesity, metabolic flexibility and body-composition change, and to compare fragment-based lipolytic activity with full-length HGH and GLP-1 agonists. The peptide is supplied as 5mg of research-grade material in a 3ml vial. Store lyophilized powder at -20C, protect it from light, and reconstitute with bacteriostatic water or an appropriate laboratory buffer according to institutional protocols.
Common research questions address its lack of IGF-1 elevation, its oral versus injectable bioavailability in animal studies, and how its lipolytic effect compares with HGH fragment 176-191 supplied under other labels. This product is intended strictly for laboratory research by qualified professionals. It is not approved for human consumption, clinical treatment or therapeutic use. AOD-9604 has also been tested in human metabolic research. An early phase 2a trial reported modest weight loss, but a larger 24-week phase 2b trial did not show statistically significant weight loss versus placebo, and obesity development was discontinued in 2007.
Those negative results are important context for interpreting the preclinical fat-oxidation data. Laboratories using the peptide often pair body-composition endpoints with indirect calorimetry, free-fatty-acid measurements and adipose-tissue lipase assays, because the proposed mechanism centres on lipolysis and lipogenesis rather than appetite. Because the peptide is short, purity is usually confirmed by HPLC and mass spectrometry before metabolic endpoints are measured.
