hcg on cycle fertility protocol - testicular function and dosing

HCG mimics luteinizing hormone, which keeps your testes producing testosterone and sperm while exogenous testosterone has shut down your HPTA - that is the entire reason guys run it on cycle. The most commonly reported maintenance protocol is 250-500 IU every other day or two to three times per week, injected subcutaneously, with many users starting it in the second half of a cycle or as a two-to-four-week bridge before a SERM PCT. It protects testicular size and fertility. It does not replace PCT.

What HCG Actually Does on Cycle

HCG is human chorionic gonadotropin, a peptide hormone that binds the same receptor LH binds. Normally your hypothalamus releases GnRH, your pituitary releases LH and FSH, and your testes respond by producing testosterone. Slam exogenous testosterone into that loop and the pituitary reads high estrogen and androgen levels, then cuts LH and FSH to nearly zero. Your testes go idle.

HCG bypasses the pituitary entirely and acts as a stand-in LH signal. The testes keep doing their job: Leydig cells keep producing testosterone, including the intratesticular testosterone that actually matters for sperm production, and the testes keep their size instead of shrinking to grapes. This is why guys running heavy compounds without any base are playing with fire - see steroids without a testosterone base - and why men on TRT add HCG for the same reason, detailed in TRT vs underground testosterone.

Why Fertility Is the Real Reason Guys Care

Exogenous testosterone makes most men functionally infertile while on it. Blood testosterone can be 3,000 ng/dL while intratesticular testosterone is near zero - and spermatogenesis runs on the local concentration inside the testes, not the number on your bloodwork. That mismatch is the whole ballgame. HCG maintains intratesticular testosterone, which is what keeps the sperm factory running.

For a guy who wants kids later - or now - the difference between "temporarily infertile" and maintaining production is often whether HCG was in the protocol. It also keeps testicular size stable, which matters for comfort and for not looking like you shrunk two sizes by week eight of a blast.

Nothing guarantees fertility on cycle - suppression varies by person, and if fertility is serious, a semen analysis beats any forum protocol. Still deciding whether to run anything at all? Start with the first steroid cycle guide.

Common On-Cycle HCG Protocols

These are community-reported patterns, not medical orders. The standard low-dose maintenance approach is 250-500 IU every other day, or two to three shots per week, injected subcutaneously. The point is maintenance, not stimulation - you are keeping a low-light signal alive, not forcing a shutdown gland into overdrive.

Timing varies by preference:

  • Throughout the whole cycle: common on longer blasts, like the duration of a 12-week mass building program with gear layered on top.
  • Second half only: many guys start HCG around week six or eight of a longer cycle, when suppression has fully kicked in, and run it to the end.
  • Pre-PCT bridge: run HCG for roughly two to four weeks before starting the oral SERM PCT so the testes are primed and can actually respond when LH comes back. Think of it as waking the machinery up before you flip the switch.

Which ester you are running changes nothing about the HCG logic - cypionate or a faster ester, the HPTA is suppressed either way. Dose escalation is where guys get greedy: higher IU counts do not mean better fertility, they mean more estrogen and a faster path to receptor desensitization. More is not more here.

How to Handle the Actual Vial

HCG comes as a lyophilized powder and is reconstituted with bacteriostatic water. Swirl it, do not shake it into foam, and refrigerate it after mixing. It is an injectable - subcutaneous, using an insulin pin, shallow into belly fat or love handles. The full technique is in how to inject steroids: sites and technique.

While you are at it, buy real supplies. Underground HCG is one of the most counterfeited items in the scene - the detection playbook is in how to spot fake steroids and UGL scams. It is prescription in most countries, so a legit vial beats a bargain kit.

And yes, oral HCG does not exist. It is a peptide - stomach acid shreds it. Any product selling "oral HCG" or HCG drops is selling you flavored water with a markup. Do not buy it.

One effect you budget for while the vial is in play: HCG raises estrogen. It makes your testes produce more testosterone, which means more aromatization substrate, which means estradiol can climb while you are on it. Guys who estrogen-control carefully during a cycle sometimes get blindsided by HCG adding to the load late in the game.

If you are gyno-prone, keep your prevention strategy dialed in - see how to prevent gyno on cycle - and watch for the early signals: nipple sensitivity, puffiness, itch. Catching it early with dose adjustment is a far better outcome than researching how to get rid of gyno after a lump has formed.

HCG Is Not PCT - And Never Was

This is the mistake that ruins protocols: treating HCG as PCT. HCG replaces the LH signal by going straight to the testes; it does not tell your pituitary to wake up and start releasing LH and FSH again. The pituitary is still suppressed by the exogenous testosterone still clearing your system. Stop the HCG with nothing behind it, and you are back where you started - shut down with idle testes.

The actual sequence: run HCG during or at the end of your cycle, let esters clear, then run a real SERM-based PCT. The complete framework is in PCT 101. HCG primes the engine; the SERM turns the key.

Same logic applies on TRT long-term. Men who want kids while on TRT add HCG to keep the testes in the game, but coming off TRT entirely still means a SERM-based recovery protocol, not just dropping the HCG and hoping.

Where HCG Fits With the Rest of Your Setup

HCG is one piece of the puzzle, not the puzzle. Nutrition and training do not change because you added it - cycle design comes first. If you have not picked a compound yet, which steroid for my goal is the honest starting point, and even a mild oral run like an anavar-only cycle shuts down your HPTA enough to make fertility strategy relevant.

Proviron gets hyped in fertility talk, but it is not a stand-in for HCG - see the proviron guide. Keep the roles straight: HCG maintains testicular function during suppression, a SERM restarts the pituitary afterward, and bloodwork tells you where you actually stand.

The Bottom Line

HCG on cycle mimics LH and keeps your testes producing testosterone, holding testicular size and sperm production together while exogenous testosterone has your HPTA switched off. The commonly reported maintenance dose is 250-500 IU every other day or two to three times weekly, injected subcutaneously with an insulin pin, reconstituted with bacteriostatic water and kept refrigerated - and the popular play is a two-to-four-week bridge before SERM PCT so the testes are primed. It raises estrogen enough to matter, is prescription in most countries, and will never replace PCT, because it replaces LH instead of restarting your pituitary's own output.

HCG On Cycle and Fertility FAQ

  • Do I need HCG on every cycle? No, but every suppressive cycle shrinks your testes and suppresses sperm production, so if fertility or testicular size matters to you, it earns its place. Even oral-only runs leave you suppressed.
  • When should I start HCG on cycle? Either from the start of a long cycle or in the second half, around week six to eight, once suppression has fully set in. Many users then run it two to four weeks before starting SERM PCT as a bridge.
  • Does HCG keep you fertile on steroids? It maintains intratesticular testosterone, which is what spermatogenesis depends on, and that is often the difference between being temporarily infertile and keeping production running. Nothing is guaranteed - if fertility is serious, get a semen analysis instead of trusting a protocol.
  • Can HCG replace PCT? No. HCG acts like LH at the testes and bypasses the pituitary entirely, so it never restarts your own LH and FSH output. A SERM-based PCT afterward is still what turns your own production back on - see PCT 101.
  • How do you inject HCG? Reconstitute the powder with bacteriostatic water, then inject subcutaneously with an insulin pin - a shallow pinch of belly fat is the standard site. The vial lives in the fridge after mixing.
