Semaglutide 5mg is a research-grade GLP-1 receptor agonist studied for appetite regulation, gastric emptying, insulin secretion and weight loss. This 3 ml vial containing 5 mg presentation is intended for laboratory investigation of dose-ranging GLP-1 receptor activation. Semaglutide is a long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist with a fatty-acid side chain that binds albumin and extends its half-life to about one week. Receptor activation increases glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon release, slows gastric emptying and reduces appetite through hypothalamic and brainstem GLP-1 signalling.
The 5 mg presentation is used for low-range dose-response and tolerability studies. Wilding and colleagues (New England Journal of Medicine, 2021) reported that once-weekly semaglutide 2.4 mg produced substantial weight loss in adults with overweight or obesity in the STEP 1 trial. Earlier studies established dose-dependent glycaemic effects in type 2 diabetes. Researchers use semaglutide to model GLP-1-driven appetite suppression, gastric emptying, beta-cell function and body-composition change. It is a standard comparator for tirzepatide, retatrutide and oral GLP-1 agonists.
The 5 mg vial is suited to concentration-response curves and rodent titration protocols where lower exposures are needed to separate efficacy from gastrointestinal tolerability. Because semaglutide is long-acting, crossover studies require washout periods of several weeks. Handle the powder at -20C, protected from moisture and light. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water or a suitable buffer, filter if the protocol requires sterility, and store working aliquots at 2-8C for short-term use. Document the diluent, concentration and preparation date.
Questions include the mechanism of lean-mass loss during GLP-1-driven weight reduction, the extent of central versus peripheral receptor engagement, and whether lower exposures preserve efficacy with fewer gastrointestinal effects. Supplied exclusively for controlled laboratory research. It is not intended for human consumption, clinical use or therapeutic application.
